Volcanoes!!

In Room 14 we are learning about natural disasters.

On Friday we had a visit from Mr Cronin, a volcanologist, and we learnt heaps of new things about volcanoes.
We found out that when there is a lot of gas in a explosive eruption, it is a very dangerous eruption. The rocks from this sort of eruption are light and have lots of holes in them - like pumice! When there isn't so much gas in an eruption the eruption isn't so dangerous. The rocks in this type of eruption are black and very heavy.
This photo shows these two types of rocks.

Mr Cronin brought in lots different types of volcanic rock, and he also brought in a seismograph which is the instrument used for measuring volcanic eruptions. Thanks for coming in to visit us Mr Cronin!
